Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has reported that the Propylene Derivatives Petrochemical Project (PDPP), a one of its kind premier petrochemical venture at Kochi refinery is all set to commission by Q2’ FY 2021. This project will facilitate the production of Acrylates, Acrylic Acid and Oxo-Alcohols and will become the first Indian refinery to produce niche petrochemicals utilizing Polymer Grade Propylene produced from the Petro Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU). Approximately 250 KT of Polymer grade Propylene will be utilized per annum to produce the derivatives. As of date, the overall physical progress of the investment has been assessed at 92 per cent and it is expected that the construction work of the project would be complete by April 2020. The total cost of the project has been estimated at around INR 53 Billion. Since, Acrylic Acid is a purely imported commodity, commissioning of the Propylene Derivatives Petrochemical Project will help lower the dependence on imports and save forex for the country. Commissioning of Acrylic Acid capacity would also boost the demand for downstream value-added products such as Acrylate esters and complement the overall growth in petrochemical industry.
