Berry Global Group has significantly enhanced its B Circular packaging portfolio for the beauty and personal care sector by incorporating its proprietary CleanStream recycled polypropylene (PP) resin. This strategic move empowers customers to adopt more sustainable packaging solutions without compromising product quality or performance.

Berry’s pioneering CleanStream technology is capable of recycling nearly 40% of polypropylene waste collected from domestic recycling bins in the UK. This advancement introduces the UK's first large-scale, domestically recovered, mechanically recycled plastic for contact-sensitive applications. An extensive life-cycle analysis conducted by Quantis reveals that packaging made from CleanStream recycled material at Berry’s Leamington Spa facility emits approximately 35% less carbon dioxide (CO2) compared to virgin plastic. This translates to an annual CO2 reduction of about 36,000 tonnes, underscoring the significant environmental benefits of Berry's innovative recycling solution.

CleanStream recycled plastic is versatile and can be utilized in producing a broad array of B Circular products, such as closures, atmospheric and airless dispensers, jars, and applicators. The material has undergone extensive testing across various products and processes to ensure it meets the stringent standards required for contact-sensitive personal care and beauty applications. This rigorous testing guarantees that CleanStream recycled plastic is suitable for high-quality, sustainable packaging solutions in the personal care and beauty sectors.

Elodie Roger, Berry Global CPI’s VP of Sustainability, emphasizes that while sustainability is crucial in beauty packaging, any recycled plastic used must achieve top performance standards. This includes effectively protecting and preserving the product while ensuring its quality and effectiveness are maintained.

CleanStream recycled plastic satisfies the high-performance standards needed for beauty packaging and is already being utilized by top personal care brands, some of which are using up to 100% recycled content. By including it in our B Circular range, we are not only preparing for the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation but also providing more companies with the chance to showcase their sustainability efforts through a diverse selection of attractive and consumer-friendly packaging options.
