Balaji Amines Delay Commencement of Chemical Complex Buoyed by Lockdown Repercussions

Balaji Amines, a renowned chemical manufacturing company in India has reported further delay in the phase 1 commencement of the greenfield project incorporating a new chemical complex. The commencement was set back following the repercussions of the nationwide lockdown imposed from end March-May to contain the Coronavirus Pandemic. The extended lockdown compelled Balaji Amines to idle construction activities due to stuck shipments of essential equipment’s and machineries. According to the officials, the project scheduled to be commissioned in April-September will now commence by the final quarter of FY 21. The phase 1 of this project include plants of Ethyl Amines and Dimethyl Carbonate having capacities 16.5 KTPA and 9.9 KTPA respectively, with overall cost worth INR 1.5 Billion. Moreover, the company has planned to withdraw the IPA line from this greenfield complex and incorporate DMC manufacturing facility. The decision is taken following the entry of a competitor with enormous potential capacity of IPA which may have hampered the profit margins of Balaji Amines in the forecast period.
