On August 2, 2024, Arcadium Lithium plc (NYSE: ALTM, ASX: LTM, "Arcadium Lithium") announced its acquisition of the lithium metal business from Li-Metal Corp. (CSE: LIM) (OTCQB: LIMFF) (FSE: 5ZO). This all-cash $11 million deal includes both the intellectual property and physical assets associated with lithium metal production, encompassing a pilot production facility located in Ontario, Canada.

As part of the acquisition, key personnel from Li-Metal's lithium metal business will be joining Arcadium Lithium. Maciej Jastrzebski, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Li-Metal, has signed a consulting agreement with Arcadium Lithium to assist in the technology transfer and team integration.

"We are thrilled to welcome the team to Arcadium Lithium as we aim to pioneer advanced lithium carbonate to lithium metal production technology," said Paul Graves, president and CEO of Arcadium Lithium. "This small but significant acquisition provides us with a platform to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing lithium metal. Being able to produce lithium metal from lithium carbonate will offer us greater flexibility to leverage our vertically integrated assets, reducing our reliance on third-party lithium metal. This will enhance the competitiveness of our butyllithium and lithium specialty chemicals business, allowing us to scale up to meet the growing demand for next-generation battery materials derived from lithium metal."

Arcadium Lithium utilizes lithium metal to produce a range of specialty products, including high purity lithium metal (HPM) and LIOVIX® — a proprietary printable lithium metal formulation for primary battery applications and next-generation batteries. The company also converts lithium metal into butyllithium, which is utilized in the production of lightweight "green" tires and other applications. Additionally, Arcadium Lithium produces lithium specialty chemicals for use in medicine, agriculture, electronics, and other industries.

Arcadium Lithium is a leading global producer of lithium chemicals, dedicated to safely and responsibly harnessing the power of lithium to enhance lives and accelerate the transition to a clean energy future. The company collaborates with customers to drive innovation and support a more sustainable world, where lithium enables new possibilities for renewable energy, electric transportation, and modern living. Arcadium Lithium is vertically integrated, boasting industry-leading capabilities across lithium extraction processes, including hard-rock mining, conventional brine extraction, and direct lithium extraction (DLE), as well as in manufacturing lithium chemicals for high-performance applications. The company operates worldwide, with facilities and projects in Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.  Arcadium Lithium is forging ahead toward a more sustainable future.
