AkzoNobel's Marine and Protective Coatings division has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Sinopec, the Chinese energy and chemical giant, to support its global expansion and contribute to the ongoing transition to green energy. This partnership, which builds on a longstanding relationship dating back to the early 2000s, will leverage AkzoNobel’s extensive global reach. The collaboration focuses on supplying Sinopec and its affiliates with high-performance International® coatings for various overseas construction projects.

The agreement includes providing a wide range of specialized coatings for critical infrastructure, such as anti-corrosive coatings for steel structures, heat-resistant protective coatings, chemical-resistant coatings for storage tanks, and high-performance fireproof coatings. These coatings will be essential for projects that require exceptional durability and quality, including the construction of refining facilities, natural gas processing plants, and chemical production sites.

Simon Parker, Director of AkzoNobel’s Marine and Protective Coatings division and a member of the Executive Committee, expressed his enthusiasm about the strengthened partnership, noting that it reflects both companies' shared commitment to advancing sustainable practices. Sinopec, one of China’s largest integrated energy and chemical corporations, is focusing on transforming its traditional operations by enhancing its green energy capabilities and promoting energy conservation and emissions reduction.

The two companies have previously collaborated on numerous landmark projects, including the Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company’s million-ton ethylene project and the Petronas RAPID project in Malaysia. Parker emphasized that AkzoNobel’s International products have been used in diverse, high-impact projects, from some of the world’s most sustainable buildings to ventures in remote locations. This latest collaboration offers an opportunity to further utilize AkzoNobel’s industry expertise and advanced product offerings to help Sinopec thrive in the global marketplace.

The agreement was formalized during a ceremony at the 7^th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, underscoring the significance of this collaboration for both companies as they work together to support Sinopec’s global projects and its green energy initiatives.
