Airfoil, a leading manufacturer of air conditioning grills and sheet metal accessories in Australia, proudly announces a significant stride towards sustainability by transitioning to LocAl® Green, lower-carbon aluminium sourced from Capral. Situated in Liverpool, Western Sydney, Airfoil has been a cornerstone of the air conditioning sector since 1976. With a workforce of 120 dedicated employees and an annual turnover exceeding $30 million, the company has solidified its position as a market leader. Over the decades, Airfoil has manufactured over a million grills and achieved sales exceeding half a billion dollars, showcasing its commitment to quality and innovation through its Australian-made accreditation, emblematic of local manufacturing excellence.

Airfoil’s decision to embrace LocAl® Green aluminium from Capral is not only timely but strategically aligned with the rising demand for sustainable construction and infrastructure materials. The primary aluminium production process emits varying amounts of carbon dioxide, ranging from under 4kg CO2e/kg Al to over 20kg CO2e/kg Al, depending on energy sources utilized. The global average stands at approximately 12.4 kg CO2e/kg Al.* Capral’s LocAl® range offers environmentally conscious options, including LocAl® Green with carbon emissions of 8kg CO2e/kg Al* and LocAl® Super Green at 4kg CO2e/kg Al*, ranking among the lowest carbon aluminium globally.

Adam Carney, Managing Director of Airfoil, highlighted the strategic importance of upcoming product developments for their clients, particularly those in the green building sector. He emphasized that these innovations will set Airfoil apart from competitors and provide substantial value to their business, underscoring their commitment to meeting client needs and enhancing market competitiveness in sustainable building solutions.

This shift in aluminium procurement underscores Airfoil’s steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and positions the company as an industry pioneer in sustainable manufacturing within the air conditioning sector. The collaboration with Capral and adoption of LocAl® Green aluminium are expected to resonate positively with Airfoil’s clientele, particularly those prioritizing sustainability credentials for their construction and infrastructure projects. Capral’s LocAl® aluminium qualifies for Green Star credits under the Responsible Products Framework and holds accreditation from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s ISupply framework, enhancing Airfoil’s market competitiveness.

Moreover, Capral stands out as Australia’s sole ASI-certified extruder of aluminium products, exemplifying its dedication to responsible sourcing and sustainability throughout its manufacturing processes. This certification provides Airfoil and other manufacturers assurance regarding the provenance of aluminium materials procured from Capral, reinforcing trust and reliability in sustainable business practices.

Adam Carney, Managing Director of Airfoil, emphasized that transitioning to LocAl® Green, ASI Certified Aluminium signifies a major milestone in Airfoil’s sustainability journey. He stated, “For Airfoil, we aim to offer our clients certainty. We strive to be a quality-assured, Australian-made company producing environmentally responsible products.” Carney highlighted that this shift is a valuable asset for the business, demonstrating their commitment to market leadership and meeting sustainable production standards.
