Sterlite Copper Plant’s Shutdown Spurs Hike in Sulphuric Acid Prices

Recent closure of Sterlite copper plant has resulted in a price hike of sulphuric and phosphoric acids affecting fertilizer and detergent industries. In last six months prices of sulphuric acid have surged 300% to Rs 12000/tonnes from Rs 3000/tonnes and phosphoric acid from Rs 43000/tonnes to Rs 53000/tonnes, a rise of 23%. The plant was producing 1.2 MT of sulphuric acid per year.
