Mitsubishi and Toyota Tie Up to Produce Bioethanol based Ethylene, Propylene, and Derivatives

The two major players in Japan, Toyota, and Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. (MCC) have decided to jointly start manufacturing and selling bioethanol-based ethylene, propylene, and their derivatives. They are most likely to begin their operations in the year 2025. This venture aims to change the whole process of ethylene, propylene, and their derivatives productions. As the concerns around pollution and fossil fuel exhaustion are circulating worldwide, these companies are thinking about adopting a sustainable approach.

The companies plan to commercialize the recycling processes and switch from fossil-fuel-based raw material to bioethanol-based. They have decided to take the sustainable route while manufacturing most products and commercialize the production and sale of plant-based ethylene, propylene, and derivatives. These two giants would pursue the manufacturing of plant-based propylene and its derivatives for the first time in Japan and the production of 100% plant-derived ethylene.

Both these firms would assess the whole market for bioethanol-based ethylene, propylene, and derivatives, and then, after evaluating everything, they would start commercializing these products in the year 2025. Furthermore, these companies would also be working towards cutting down GHG production in the manufacturing processes of different commodities, considering environmental implications.

Altogether, adopting a sustainability approach and choosing a plant-derived raw material to produce ethylene, propylene, and derivatives is the overall goal of this plan jointly made by these two famous firms of Japan. It would be interesting to see the outcome of this project and how it would benefit the ethylene, propylene, and derivatives-related industries. As propylene prices and its derivatives and ethylene and its derivatives are increasing worldwide and fuelled fossil fuel prices, shifting to a bio-based raw material and altering the production process might benefit these two firms and the related companies.
