Marlex® Anew™ Circular Polyethylene (PE) film produced by Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is now heading to stores in the United States. This versatile and efficient film helps preserve food, keep medical instruments secure and sterile, and provide lightweight and durable product packaging. It's a joint venture with Charter Next Generation (CNG), bringing us one step closer to a more sustainable future.

“Together with CNG, we are transforming waste plastics into useful products and demonstrating real-world, commercial scale applications of circular plastics,” stated Jay Bickett, CPChem’s Vice President of Polymers. “This collaboration is a great example of the new possibilities unlocked by advanced recycling.”

CPChem has taken the lead in sustainability and circularity by leveraging its advanced recycling program to produce Marlex® Anew™ Circular (PE), a plastic certified through International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS. This process uses pyrolysis oil sourced from difficult-to-recycle waste plastics as a feedstock, creating a circular (PE) with properties identical to those of CPChem’s original Marlex® (PE).

CNG is proud to announce that its Lexington, Ohio campus has achieved ISCCPLUS certification. This landmark achievement makes it one of the single largest extrusion sites in the world. For more than 10 years, CNG has used recycled content as a core component in many of its food and consumer packaging films. These films are used for a variety of applications, including towel and tissue overwrap, fresh produce and protein packaging, e-commerce and much more.

“CNG is excited to bring films using Marlex® Anew™ Circular (PE) to consumers,” stated Doug Latreille, Chief Commercial Officer at CNG. “With our Lexington campus now ISCC PLUS certified, CNG is well positioned to offer circular products like these films to customers on a commercial scale.”

Phillips 66 and CPChem recently collaborated on a commercial-scale trial at the Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery in Old Ocean, Texas. This venture proved to be successful, as the refinery was certified with ISCC PLUS verifying that it has met the standards for transforming pyrolysis oil into circular feedstocks, which are then used to manufacture Marlex® Anew™ Circular (PE) from CPChem.

CPChem is continually exploring potential applications for its circular (PE) and expanding its advanced recycling program. The successful trial with Phillips 66 further reinforces the success of this venture and highlights the endless possibilities of circular (PE).
